Vakyam
Raaga voices for English (India) and seven Indic languages, with speed control.
Vakyam is a text-to-speech service for Indian English and Indic languages, using the Raaga model. Vakyam tuning is passed in synthesizer.options.
You can also set these in the portal under Extra Options on the speech credential, in which case they apply to every request that uses that credential. Settings supplied on the verb take precedence.
Credential
Add a Vakyam speech credential in the portal or API, using the vendor id vakyam. Vakyam is used for text-to-speech only.
When you save the credential, jambonz checks it by synthesizing a short phrase in en-IN with the Archana voice.
Voices and languages
Vakyam supports eight languages: en-IN (English, India), hi-IN (Hindi), ta-IN (Tamil), te-IN (Telugu), kn-IN (Kannada), mr-IN (Marathi), gu-IN (Gujarati) and bn-IN (Bengali). Every voice speaks every language:
Voice names are case-sensitive. A cloned voice id (vc_...) from your Vakyam account works too: put it in voice.
Vakyam accepts only the eight xx-IN codes above. jambonz maps synthesizer.language by its language part, so en-US and en become en-IN, hi becomes hi-IN, and so on. Any other language falls back to en-IN. To send a specific code, set language in the options.
Vakyam serves a single model, raaga-v1, which is the default. jambonz requests 16-bit PCM at 24 kHz and resamples it to the call’s rate.
Options
Every option is optional. An option you don’t set is not sent, so Vakyam’s own default applies.
The model. Overrides the credential’s model. Defaults to raaga-v1.
Speaking rate, 0.5 – 2. 1 is normal speed.
One of en-IN, hi-IN, ta-IN, te-IN, kn-IN, mr-IN, gu-IN or bn-IN, sent to Vakyam as given instead of the mapped synthesizer.language.
Host override. Overrides the credential’s API base URL.
Streaming
Vakyam has no token-streaming websocket, so it does not support TTS streaming: use it for one-shot say, not for say with stream: true or the agent verb.
